Arico

There are archaeological remains almost throughout the borough. Finds have included mommies, pots and other utensils; the ravines of Juan Andrés, La Cueva, Guasiegre (La Cisnera), El Rio, etc. are just some of the places where important finds have been made.

The parish church of San Juan Bautista is a beautiful church built in the 18th century, to replace the original church that was founded between 1590 - 1610.

Important works of art are conserved inside, and it has been declared an Historic-Artistic Monument.

The sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, the oldest religious foundation of the Kingdom of Abona (16th century) is in Punta de Abona. This is considered second in importance only to Candelaria.

The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Luz, in Arico el Nuevo is also worth a visit.
