Mountain Hostels


There are presently two mountain hostels; Bolico and Montes de Anaga, set in the Teno and the Anaga Rural Parks respectively.

Location of the Hostel
The Montes de Anaga Hostel is located in the area of El Bailadero, in the Anaga Rural Park. The building blends perfectly into an area of exceptional beauty, full of contrasts and which has been protected since 1987 by the Declaration of Canary Island Natural Areas Act, Law 12/1987, of the 19th of June. At the time, it was classified as a nature park, renamed the Anaga Rural Park, by Law 12/1994, of the 19th of December.
The area in which the Montes de Anaga Hostel is sited has also been declared a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA). On the other hand, the integral nature reserves of El Pijaral, Ijuana and Los Roques de Anaga, set within the Park, are considered sensitive ecological areas.
Facilities
The Montes de Anaga Hostel is a three-storey building with a total of nine rooms that can sleep up to forty people. The facilities, adapted to the needs of the disabled, are for people of all kinds: hikers, organised groups, tourists, students, associations or simply sports and nature lovers. The hostel has a multi-purpose lounge, workshop, kitchen, terrace, laundry, boiler room and a kit room.
Access
Public transport: Route 247 Santa Cruz-Chamorga-Punta de Anaga; Route 077 La Laguna-El Bailadero.
Private transport: From Santa Cruz, you head towards San Andres/ Las Teresitas Beach and, when you come to San Andres, you take the turn off for El Bailadero and Taganana. From La Laguna, you have to cross Monte de Las Mercedes. Once you reach El Bailadero, follow the TF-123 road towards Chamorga, until you come across a small esplanade to the left of the road.

Location of the Hostel
In the Teno Rural Park, near the district of La Portela Alta, in the Borough of Buenavista del Norte. It is set in the Finca de Bolico estate, covering an area of 220 Has. The estate contains a broad diversity of high mountain and foothill environments of the Teno Massif, from laurel forests and fertile farm land, on the northern slopes, to the ridges and broom brush that covers the southern part of the estate. All together, it encompasses sites of enormous ecological and scenic value that are protected and managed by the park.
Facilities
The Bolico Hostel can sleep up to 36 people in three dormitories with bunks for 14, 12 and 10 people respectively. It also has a multi-purpose lounge for meals, relaxing and for activities, and a kitchen that can be used by groups. There are also two outside terraces. The hostel can offer catering, service, recreational activities, open-air sports and information about the estate and the Teno Rural Park.
The hostel consists of two buildings that use parts of the old farm buildings that have been refurbished (the former farmhouse, stables and water tank). It is set in an area of great natural and landscape interest, with an extensive network of trails connecting the Hostel with the main areas of the park.
Services and activities
The Hostel can be used by groups and individuals to enjoy the natural and rural environment, for nature-orientated activities, environmental education, camps and meetings. It is open to people of all kinds and it is accessible for the disabled.
Access
By bus: From the North: route 355 from Buenavista. From the South: route 355 from Santiago del Teide (up-to-the-minute permanent TITSA information: 922 531 300)
By other means of transport: From the North: To get to the hostel, you take the TF 436 road from Buenavista del Norte to Santiago del Teide, via Masca. Las Portelas is about 10 kilometres from the centre of Buenavista del Norte in the El Palmar Valley. Once you are in Las Portelas, by the El Cruce bar, go up the hill that is just opposite. As you go past the last of the houses, about 700 metres further on, you will find the gate to the estate, and then the Hostel.
From the South: from Santiago del Teide, take the road leading to Masca. Go through Los Carrizales and you will come to Las Portelas. Once you reach Las Portelas, at the El Cruce, go up the hill just opposite. As you go past the last of the houses, about 700 metres further on, you will see the gate to the estate, and then the Hostel.
