San Cristóbal de La Laguna

The north east sector of the borough is part of the Anaga Nature Park. This is an area of beautiful landscapes, rich in ancient volcanic materials, shapes and structures that date back 3.5 million years, severely affected by erosion. It also contains a wealth of vegetation, with areas of well conserved laurel forest and many endemic species. It is also an area rich in bird species.

There is a recreation area and camp site at Llano de los Viejos, which can be reached along the road that goes from La Laguna to Las Mercedes (a permit is needed to stay overnight, which can be obtained from the Department of the Environment of the Island Cabildo).

There are other interesting natural areas along the coastal cliffs, including Pico de los Lázaros, Montaña de Guerra and the Esperanza volcanoes.

At Km. 1 along the Esperanza road, you will find an Environmental Education and Awareness Centre. This carries out a range of environmental education activities, such as biological support, nature classes, awareness campaigns, courses, etc.
