Matanza, La

The town was named after the defeat suffered by the Spaniards at the hands of the Guanches in a fierce battle that was fought in the Acentejo ravine.

The wines of the area are among the best in Tenerife and there are many different wine bars where you can taste them. A tourist industry is starting to develop on the La Matanza coast, based on individual chalets that blend in with the magnificent landscape. La Vica is a recreation area up toward the mountains, ideal for excursions, relaxing and enjoying a barbecue in the countryside, as it has a water supply and grills.
