Garachico

Along with Buenavista and Los Silos, Garachico makes up what is known as the Lowland Island (Isla Baja). An historic flavour is conserved in town and you can sense an unbelievable quiet and tranquillity. Garachico was Tenerife's main port until 1706, when a violent volcanic eruption destroyed it.

There are some highly interesting monuments in Garachico, such as the San Miguel Castle, the churches of Santa Ana and Nuestra Señora de los Angeles, and the convents of Santo Domingo and San Francisco. Practically the entire town is a living museum.

The popular pilgrimage of San Roque has been declared of national tourist interest.
