Half a million years ago

The final stage encompasses the last half million years. It is characterised by a new kind of volcanism; on the one hand, a gigantic stratovolcano of Pico Viejo and Pico Teide was formed inside Las Cañadas caldera, whereas, many new volcanic chimneys appear throughout the rest of the island, the lava from which covers almost the whole existing landscape (diagram C) and even reclaims new land from the sea.

This is when the current topography took shape, highlighting most of these small volcanoes with well conserved cones.
