FIESTAS OF SAN ANDRES - PUERTO DE LA CRUZ

This "fiesta" is commonly called "La Fiesta del Cacharro" (pots) or "La Castaña" (chestnut). On the evening of November the 29th, young people and tourists gather in Plaza del Charco to throw hundreds of pots and pans, and other old objects, around.

They bang them on the ground, making quite a din as they move along the adjacent streets. The "Castañada" (chestnut feast) is held in the square itself, with the chance to try many typical products of the island, like chestnuts, wreckfish, toasted corn flour, sweet potato, wine, etc.

Agenda 29th and 30th November

On the eve of San Andrés, on November 29, pots can be "manufactured" in the Plaza del Charco, in a tent set up for the occasion, which will be available to all those who want to 'run the pots' that afternoon. The celebration is completed already at night with the show 'Entre ruido y castañas'. Function in which the groups Jeita, Añate and percussionists from the show 'Pieles' join to make a tribute to the sea and its fishermen, to the tradition of San Andrés, its chestnuts, wine and pots and that will take place in the esplanade of the House of Customs. At the end, a pyrotechnic show is planned to close a night of traditions and noise.

The following day, November 30, the festival of San Andrés, Puerto de la Cruz will celebrate the end of the year a month earlier than usual and normal, for a good reason. That night will be recorded in the Plaza de Europa the Special end of the year, happy "almost" 2019 of the program 'Night of Taifas' of Canary Television. So do not forget to go with your best clothes to toast the New Year.
